The short answer
Local rental groups can surface homes you might not see elsewhere, including posts from individual owners. The drawback is the manual work: you may follow many groups, scroll through irrelevant posts, and see the same place more than once. Kate is designed to skip the scrolling: you describe what you need once, and she replies with available homes that fit, taken from owners who listed with her brokerage rather than from social-media posts.
Why groups are still useful
Groups can connect you with local communities and direct owner posts. You can ask questions and learn about a neighborhood. Some groups are moderated; others are noisy, and a post can be incomplete or stale. Treat the details as a lead to verify.
What Kate would change
Instead of opening several feeds each day, you would tell Kate your city, budget, bedrooms, and move-in date. The planned flow replies with a short list of available homes, each with its source, and continues with showings, applications, the owner’s screening request, and lease e-signatures. Kate does not read or copy posts from Facebook.
Stay careful with any source
Confirm that a listing is current and that the person offering it is authorized to rent it. Tour or verify the property before paying, and use the original post or a verified property contact for the next step.
